The D&H Legacy

In 1987 Melvin Dabney Sr., with only a high school education, started D and H painting and wallcovering. Back then the emphasis was ensuring that the customer received the best paint and wallcovering services that was out there. Over the last 32 years, D and H painting and wallcovering has evolved into D and H Construction Services Inc. offering a wide range of services and areas of expertise. D and H has and always will be a family brand and that’s what keeps our clients choosing us time and time again as their go to Class A Building Contractor. 


At D and H Construction Services Inc. our philosophy is “The Customer First.” By always ensuring the customer is first we are able to provide our clients with a personalized experience from start to finish. We emphasis clear and concise communication and always provide exceptional work that our clients are proud of but more importantly that we are proud of.  


Our main goal as a company is to provide a continuance of professional construction services to a wide range of companies and organizations in the city of Richmond, Va. and surrounding areas. We apply our steadfast determination, problem solving expertise, and incontrovertible integrity to produce a quality project, on time and on budget. Our areas of expertise include but are not limited to: General Contractors, Project Management, Tenant Upfits, Alterations and Renovations, New Construction and Facilities Maintenance. 


At D and H, our motto is “Building for a More Diverse Tomorrow,” and we do that by understanding the needs of our clients. Our portfolio is vast and includes the completion of office buildings, retail centers, hospitals and healthcare centers. Also, in 2015 D and H Construction Services Inc. was awarded the largest contract for a minority company from VCU health systems. We are certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a minority business enterprise (MBE) as well as SWAM certified and D and H Construction Services Inc. also has bonding capacity.

As a second-generation contractor, Melvin has had much experience growing up working in the field. When D and H was just painting and wallcovering Melvin was a part of the process learning to paint and lay wall paper. Since the company has evolved so has Melvin’s abilities and responsibilities. He has worn many hats over the years and worked in all aspects of the industry, making him extremely knowledgeable and an integral player in the functionality of The D and H Construction Services Inc brand.

Nerisa J. Ford

Controller

Nerisa J. Ford is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting with a minor in Business Management. She successfully completed the Certified Public Accountants exam in 1988, and has been the Controller at D & H Construction Services, Inc. for the past 8 years. Nerisa has 30+ years of progressive experience in accounting, auditing, and financial management – both in private industry and government. Nerisa is highly organized and a thinker. She has a proven ability to manage complex projects, create streamline processes and is an effective communicator. She brings a broad range of experience in HR, Payroll, Banking, Office Administration, and accounts payable and receivable. Not to mention, Nerisa is also an entrepreneur – she is a FedEx contractor and restaurateur.


Tabetha Dabney

Project Manager

Tabetha Dabney brings 3 years of experience to her title. Starting off as an intern project manager, Tabetha quickly worked her way up the ranks. Her dedication and desire to learn are what have kept her climbing the ladder. She is a graduate of The University of Virginia and a former softball pitcher. While in this industry Tabby, as we call her in the office, has grown from an intern to now being a Project Manager. Tabetha is highly motivated and highly effective with a proven ability to manage others and get desirable results. Tabetha is able to manage complex projects by using her exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. She is a team player and knows how to get the job done.


Tiffany Dabney

Office Manager

Tiffany Dabney is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor’s of Science and primary focus of biology. Prior to coming to the construction industry, Tiffany served as a high school biology teacher for eight years. Upon leaving in 2021, Tiffany decided to join the family business and learn the construction industry. Since joining the team Tiffany has learned so much and has really enjoyed learning more about the ever-changing world of building and design. Tiffany brings a great deal of organization and problem-solving skills to the team which show to be a valuable asset when working with time sensitive materials.
